Lengua

Lengua is a photographer from the Canary Islands. With portraiture as its central concern, his practice is built upon a foundation of subtle, carefully considered gestures. Recurring throughout the resulting images, these gestures demonstrate a preoccupation with non-verbal signifiers, lending a distinctive sense of questioning to each of his projects. Exploring themes of mortality, Lengua’s photographs seek to reconstitute the image as a mechanism of representation. An ongoing project, Nukes, delves into themes of necropolitics and the use of images as vehicles for sympathy, and will be compiled into his first photo book. Commercially, Lengua regularly photographs for Miu Miu, Ferragamo and others.
